Dear Readers & Cake Eaters,

I’m happy to report that things here at The Cakewalk HQ are moving right along. I’m starting to find a better flow now that I’ve christened Le Scoop as a weekly sendout and I am beyond thrilled that y’all are starting to reach out to me directly with your brand news. I’ll keep tweaking the format here and there to finesse it as I continue to learn what works best - please feel free to give me feedback anytime! But for now, it’s back to our (ir)regularly scheduled programming of themed newsletters!

If you’re new here, the Main Course section is usually for longer stories, the meatier subjects, things that I have more to say about - they can be related to the theme, but usually it’s just something I want to bring to your attention. Additionally, I would be remiss if I failed to inform you about the existence of the above zine, Prawnography by artist Tamiko Sidore who’s based in Oakland. (Oh hayy gurl!) Thank God Carter Vail’s “song” prompted me to do a quick internet search on “prawnography” or else I would have totally missed this gem. All I can say is, OF COURSE it exists. And OF COURSE I found it, lolz. Buy it HERE.

Shrimp Cocktail Cheesecake by Side Piece Kitchen

So Side Piece Kitchen is one of those IG discoveries of mine that makes me beyond happy and gives me hope that the algorithm might not actually be that broken? Debatable. But anyways, Side Piece Kitchen is a very real restaurant in Tacoma, Washington known for their biscuits and cheesecakes. Is it on my list? Yes. Now every once in a while, they’ll post videos for some semi unhinged cheesecake idea like below - I can neither confirm or deny whether these cheesecakes are just for the trollz and lolz of it or if they actually go on the weekly specials menu but I hope they’re forrealsies because 10 times out of 10, I catch myself saying “I’d eat that”. Or worse, I’m inspired to make it myself. Previous cheesecake concoctions of theirs include: Flaming Hot Cheesecake, Caesar Salad Cheesecake, Pickle Cheesecake, French Onion Soup Cheesecake, and more. Again, I would try ALL of those.
