No. 14 || Great EGGSpectations. . . In This Economy?? (continued)
Eggcessorize your lil heart out in the À La Carte section, gorgeous eggditorials, & more eggclusive Cakewalk content in the Desserts & Digestifs sections. Please don't eggnore me. . .
Dear Readers & Cake Eaters,
If you could be so kind as to answer this survey for me, it would be much appreciated! I will continue to experiment with send-out formats in the meantime and we’ll see what sticks!
It’s funny - I thought splitting this NL in two would mean a little less content in each one, making it easier to digest but here we are with just as much content if not more because surprise, I just have so much to say and share with y’all! Lolz.
My only other request is for you to open this up in your browser and scroll all the way to the end (even if it’s your first time) because I can promise there’s a visual feast at the end that’s not to be missed. Now let’s dig in!

P.S. No Audio for Part II’s because they’re more visually oriented!

Desserts

In honor of Paris Fashion week starting on Monday, remember these Loewe babies? That is all.
Now just FYI, there is a World Egg Art Museum complete with a World Egg Artists Association, complete with an Encyclopedia of World Egg Artists. There’s also Egg Art International. Egg folks sure don’t yolk around. . .

I’ll keep it short, here’s “An Installation Featuring 7,000 Fried Eggs By Christopher Chiappa” from 2015. As for my Londoners, did y’all catch the Un Oeuf Is Un Oeuf exhibition at TJ Boulting last October? This exhibit featured Sarah Lucas’ “One Thousand Eggs” performance as well as other artists like Man Ray, Maisie Cousins, Coco Capitán and more. Read more about it here.
Digestifs

All of these images are by the inimitable photographer, Bobby Doherty - hands down one of my favorite (food) photographers/visual artists. Obsessed would be an understatement. Doherty doesn’t only photograph food but when he does, it just hits different. His photography more often than not can pass for a painting and most of the time leaves me wondering how it’s even a photograph at all. You’ll be interested to know that the cover image of The Gourmand’s Egg book by Taschen that I featured in the À La Carte section is also shot by Doherty along with a few other pages in the book. Check out some more of his work here.

Allow me to present to you yet another one of the (food) photography greats, the charming and color-charged, Maurizio Di Iorio. Again, Di Iorio’s work is not limited to food but naturally, it’s what catches my eye the most. The saturation, the vibrancy, the textures. . . I could sit in a room and stare at these images for a very long time. Check out his website HERE that very appropriately, has a *spoiler alert* - gigantic egg on the landing page.

Ana Lorenzana is a Columbian photographer who trained in Paris and is now based in Mexico City. Her spirited images are always sure to tell a story while providing you with your daily dose of eye candy. You could say I’M A FAN.
Please give a round of applause for this gorgeous gorgeous egg photographed by Hugo Yu, art direction by Megan Paetzhold and styled by one of the food stylist GREATS - Michelle Gatton for NY Mag. Gatton has a raw talent for styling food beyond words and you can bet your bottom dollar she’s one of my absolute favorite food stylists.
by Miles Aldridge - British photographer & artist - another one of my favs from my fashion era (could you tell?)
by Swiss artist, Urs Fischer - FUN FACT! This was the album art cover of “It’s Blitz!” by Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. (Call me uncultured but this was new to me!)
by Ines Melia, a French artist based in Paris
by Krista van der Niet - photographer and professor based in the Netherlands
by Jack Davison - a London based portrait and documentary photographer
But wait a minute, you didn’t think I’d let you go scot-free without leaving you with at least ONE (or two) off-putting thing, did you?!
I’m slightly sorry about this one. I too can’t unsee it. I’d also like to add that both this one, and the one below are VIDEOS. Please click because there’s SO MUCH MORE to the story. That is all, carry on!
Not sorry about this one, lolz.
